Connect clients
Use the AWS CLI, boto3, rclone or any S3 SDK with Aether.
Point any S3 client at the endpoint with path-style addressing
(http://host:9000/bucket/key) and Signature Version 4. The examples use
the root key; applications should use their own.
export AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=admin AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=change-me-please AWS_DEFAULT_REGION=us-east-1
aws --endpoint-url http://localhost:9000 s3 mb s3://reports
aws --endpoint-url http://localhost:9000 s3 cp ./q3.pdf s3://reports/2026/q3.pdf
aws --endpoint-url http://localhost:9000 s3 ls s3://reports --recursiveAWS CLI v1 presigns URLs with the deprecated SigV2 unless its config sets
s3.signature_version = s3v4.
Region
Clients sign requests for a region. Aether uses us-east-1 unless
s3.region says otherwise; use the same value in your client.
Clients that only speak SigV2
s3.allow_sig_v2 = true accepts Signature Version 2 requests and presigned URLs
for clients that cannot be changed. Prefer configuring clients for SigV4.
See Compatibility for what is not supported yet.
